Technical Consultant
Help Korean shipyards and design offices get the most out of NAPA’s ship design solutions, from solving structural design problems to training new users.
NAPA Design Solutions offers a comprehensive solution for 3D ship modeling and design tools covering hull form design and hydrodynamics, hydrostatics and stability, structural design, and information sharing across the shipbuilding process. These are among the most powerful tools in industry, trusted by the world’s largest shipyards and classification societies.
The role: what is it about?
The team is now looking for a Technical Consultant in Busan whose job is to make customers successful with NAPA’s ship design solutions. You answer technical questions, solve structural design-related problems, and deliver user training. You are the first-person Korean shipyards, and design offices turn to when they want to get more out of the software.
The role has two sides. Alongside technical support, you also support sales activities: you give technical guidance while customers evaluate the software, follow up together with sales to turn trials into commercial projects, and spot opportunities to expand NAPA usage in accounts we already work with.
You are also encouraged to bring artificial intelligence (AI) tools into your own workflow and into the way you support customers. We want you to learn where these tools help and where they do not, and to share what you learn with your colleagues.
This job is permanent and full-time.
What you will do
• Answer and resolve customer technical questions on ship structural basic design and detail design.
• Troubleshoot structural design-related problems in NAPA solutions and follow issues through to resolution.
• Plan and deliver user training and onboarding sessions.
• Travel to customer sites for service visits and sales support.
• Support trials with technical guidance during the evaluation, and follow up with sales to convert trials into commercial projects.
• Identify and report opportunities to expand NAPA usage within existing accounts.
• Produce supporting material such as training videos, user guides and FAQs, and keep it up to date in the knowledge base.
• Log and communicate customer requests, defects and improvement ideas to product development.
Your team and job location
You will work as part of the global NAPA Design Solutions Services team. Your closest colleagues are Services experts with whom you share knowledge, training material and support practices every day. You will also work closely with local and global sales teams on joint customer visits and trial follow-up, and with software development, where you are one of the channels that brings customer requests, defects and improvement ideas into the product.
This role is based in Busan, Korea, and you can work at the office or in hybrid mode. And the role includes occasional travel to customer sites.
What we expect from you
What matters most: you understand ship structural design, you enjoy helping people, and you are happy to explain a solution as often as it takes.
Our ideal candidate would have:
• An academic degree (Bachelor’s or higher) in naval architecture, ocean engineering, structural design or a similar field
• Knowledge of ship structural basic design and detail design, including an academic understanding of how this work is done in Korea
• 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in ship structural design, design software support or technical customer service. A recent graduate with a Master’s degree in a related field is equally welcome to apply.
• Problem-solving skills and the persistence to follow a technical issue through to resolution
• Training, teaching and presentation skills
• A customer-oriented service attitude, and communication skills that work across teams and cultures
• Willingness to learn and apply AI tools responsibly, together with the ability to take initiative and work independently
Additionally, the following would be considered an advantage:
• Experience with NAPA products
• Experience in user training or in other customer-facing technical work
• Understanding of how computer-aided design (CAD) and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems are integrated into ship design workflows
• Commercial awareness and the ability to support sales work
• Experience in creating documentation and training material such as videos and user guides
You do not need to tick every box on these lists. If this role feels like a good fit for you and you have most of what we are looking for, we hope you will apply.
We work in English across all our offices, so you need to be comfortable using it in your daily work, both in writing and in conversation. And as you will work closely with Korean customers every day, we are looking for someone who is eligible to work in Korea and native-level Korean.
Why you will enjoy working in this role
• The design work of Korean shipyards and design offices happens in the software you support, and NAPA tools are trusted by the world’s largest shipyards and classification societies
• You see the whole picture of a customer relationship, from the first technical question during a trial to training, onboarding and expanded use
• Your work has a direct route into the product: what you hear from customers is what product development hears from you
• A global team of 240 experts who support you and share what they know, across naval architecture, software development and sales
• You are encouraged to work out how AI tools can make technical support and training better, and to shape how the team uses them
